The reclamation of Belmont Beach project began with a collective desire to honor a historically significant space. Inspired by the legacy of our forebears, we are committed to transforming a long-neglected patch of land into a vibrant hub of natural beauty and social connection.
Since kicking off in 2021, we have transformed Belmont Beach into a gathering place where people of all ages, races, and backgrounds come together to enjoy the wonders of nature and each other’s company. Today, Belmont Beach hosts a variety of activities that foster community engagement and appreciation for the environment. It is a place where children can explore and learn about nature, families can picnic and play, and neighbors can gather for events and celebrations.
Programming runs from April through October each year. Check our calendar for upcoming events.
Friends of Belmont Beach:
Driving the Vision
Central to this effort is Friends of Belmont Beach, a not-for-profit community organization founded by Haughville residents. In addition to launching the reclamation effort, Friends of Belmont Beach is now working to turn Belmont Beach into a permanent recreation area.
Along the way, we are committed to ensuring that Belmont Beach is developed in the community, with the community, and for the community of Haughville. Our goal is to create a lasting, inclusive space that honors the past while fostering a bright future.

Shaping the Future of Haughville's Riverfront
The Haughville Riverfront Vision Plan outlines a bold future for parks and green spaces along the west bank of the White River. Created in collaboration with Indy Parks, the plan highlights four key areas: Belmont Beach, Reverend Mozel Sanders Park, Haughville Nature Trail, and River Station. Find out more here.
Belmont Beach is a 100% grassroots initiative. Join the movement to help ensure it continues to thrive for years to come.
